Mike Cherry
Anchor/ReporterMike joined the KCRA 3 and My58 News Teams in June of 2022 as a morning anchor.
An Emmy and Mark Twain award winner, Mike has more than two decades in broadcast journalism.
Prior to moving to Sacramento, Mike spent nearly five years at WMUR in New Hampshire. While in the Granite State, he helped News Nine's award winning coverage of the 2020 First in the Nation Primaries, assisted in a documentary on the Bear Brook Murders and, in a story very close to his heart, helped WWII veteran Francis Byrne achieve his dying wish of receiving his long awaited and much deserved Purple Heart award.
Since 2000, Mike began learning every facet of the news industry in his home state of Hawai'i. Mike’s career in journalism began as a video editor and camera man at KGMB in Honolulu. After spending six years behind the camera, Mike jumped on set as a sports anchor and eventually the anchor chair at KITV. Mike graduated from the University of Hawaii at Manoa with a Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism.
During that time he's been fortunate to travel around the world while doing the job he loves. From a series of reports in Indonesia documenting the aftermath of a devastating tsunami, to the Heisman Ceremony in New York and NFL Draft in Chicago.
When he’s not working you’ll find Mike, his wife and their dog (Sage) exploring every facet that their surroundings have to offer, whether it be hiking, trying out new restaurants or packing the car for a road trip
