Sacramento Republic FC captain Rodrigo López out for rest of season after ACL injury
Sacramento Republic FC captain Rodrigo "RoRo" López will be out for the remainder of the 2024 season after tearing his ACL, the team said on Friday.
López injured his left knee during Tuesday's Open Cup Match.
The team said the midfielder is scheduled to undergo reconstructive surgery next week.
López was also out for much of last season for an injury, needing surgery to repair the rectus tendon in his right leg.
He returned from that injury this season and netted two goals and one assist across nine league appearances.
López has also been dealing with medical issues in his family. Last month he received an outpouring of support from the community as his son Roman underwent heart surgery. Roman was released from the hospital following the surgery earlier this week.
López is one of the most beloved players in franchise history. Back in 2013, López was the Republic's first signing ahead of their inaugural season. After leaving Sacramento for some time, he ultimately returned in 2022.
Republic FC will continue their journey in the U.S. Open Cup without López. The team is set to face the Seattle Sounders, a Major League Soccer team, in the quarterfinals. Find more information and how to get tickets here.
